5 Stars - 2017 Richard Hamilton Farm Twelve Mourvèdre

WineState Magazine McLaren Vale Tasting 2019

The annual WineState Magazine McLaren Vale Tasting results have been announced and Richard Hamilton and Leconfield Wines have dominated with some exceptional 5 and 4 ½  Star awards.

Our stunning Single Vineyard 2017 Richard Hamilton ‘Farm Twelve’ Mourvèdre scored the highest points in its category with 5 Stars.

Three of our 2017 vintage wines scored an exceptional 4 ½ StarsLeconfield McLaren Vale Shiraz, Richard Hamilton ‘Little Road’ Shiraz and the Richard Hamilton ‘Colton’s GSM. A further three scored 4 Stars2017 ‘Panacea’ Barbera, 2018 ‘Burton’s Vineyard’ Old Bush Vine Grenache and the 2016 ‘Hut Block’ Cabernet Sauvignon.

Our 2018 Richard Hamilton ‘Gida’s’ Rosé is highly recommended in the Best Buys section.

5 Stars - 2017 Richard Hamilton Farm Twelve Mourvèdre: Very typical spicy gamey Mourvèdre bouquet with an earthy lift and a great powerful leathery tannic varietal palate with good length and depth of spicy/earthy flavours.

4 ½ Stars - 2017 Leconfield McLaren Vale Shiraz: An aromatic power of chocolate, malt, briary fruit and violets with peppery fruit flavours on a tight palate with good use of oak and ‘piquant’ acidity.

4 ½ Stars - 2017 Richard Hamilton Little Road Shiraz: Darker fruit characters evident here and layered with some pretty blueberry nuances and nicely balanced by the mocha-like oak, tight tannins and acid.

4 ½ Stars - 2017 Richard Hamilton ‘Colton’s’ GSM: Rounded leathery liquorice aromas with floral undertones. Big and rich in the mouth but has elegance with lovely fruit/oak complexity and good tannic finish.

4 Stars - 2017 Richard Hamilton ‘Panacea’ Barbera: Youthful perfumed berry fruit aromas with powerful eucalypt notes which are echoed on the fresh, acid driven acid, palate.

4 Stars - 2016 Richard Hamilton ‘Hut Block’ Cabernet Sauvignon: A full-bodied cabernet with lively aromatics and excellent youthful liquoricey fruit flavours support by the furry-like tannins.

4 Stars - 2018 Richard Hamilton ‘Burton’s Vineyard’ Old Bush Vine Grenache: Lovely fragrances of pot pourri and lavender with a youthful, full-flavoured palate, firm but juicy with a big finish. Needs time.

Best Buys 3 ½ Stars - 2018 Richard Hamilton ‘Gida’s’ Rosé: Bright pink/orange colour with attractive bright berry fruit characters layered with excellent savoury elements. Lovely complex wine.
