Marvellous Merlot - Second Gold Medal Win
Leconfield Coonawarra 2010 Merlot
Following on from its Trophy win for 'Best Merlot' at the Royal Brisbane Wine show earlier this year, the 2010 Leconfield Merlot has just been awarded a Gold Medal at the prestigious 2011 Royal Melbourne Wine Show.
Forget everything that was suggested about Merlot in the movie Sideways! This wine pushes all the boundaries ...... deep fruit flavours, ripe tannins and abundant varietal character.
Senior Winemaker, Paul Gordon, states "The maturity of these vineyards gives us something special to work with and we have developed our style over many years."

Another 'Gold' for Leconfield Wines
Leconfield 'Old Vines' Riesling is proudly celebrating another Gold Medal win.
The 2010 vintage has been awarded 'Gold' at the Sydney Royal Wine Show, complementing the gold medal received at last year's Royal Adelaide Wine Show.
These accolades add further weight to Leconfield Riesling's claim as one of Australia's leading examples of the variety. Late last year it was awarded gold, competing against the local Clare and Eden Valley Rieslings at the Royal Adelaide Wine Show.
Senior Wine Maker Paul Gordon has been at the helm of Leconfield's winemaking for nearly a decade and has been the driving force behind the ongoing quest for delivering quality wines from it's Coonawarra and McLaren Vale vineyards.
"Our 'Old Vines' Riesling is sourced from thirty-seven year old, dry-grown vines and is a regular medal winner," he says.
"High quality Riesling may be one of Coonawarra's best kept secrets to some, but we love it - and clearly the judges do too!"
The 2010 Leconfield 'Old Vines' Riesling is available nationally.

2009 Richard Hamilton Shiraz
In some ways, this young McLaren Vale shiraz harks back to the days before many South Australian wine makers started trying to make the biggest and brawniest reds they could. Its an honest regional type with a nose that shows some Southern Vales earthiness, deliciously ripe mixed-berry aromas, notes of spice and chocolate. Its nicely unforced and natural in style with a supple, juicy mid palate persistent flavour and attractively soft tannins. And reasonably priced. Bravo. ****1/2 $$$

'White Gold' for Leconfield Winery
Leconfield Wines are proudly celebrating a Gold Medal win for their 2010 ‘Old Vines’ Riesling.
There is extra excitement in the camp with the win going to one of the companies white wines – sitting nicely alongside the accolades regularly received for the Leconfield reds.
Senior Winemaker Paul Gordon is very happy with the consistency he is seeing across the Leconfield range.
“Our ‘Old Vines’ Riesling is sourced from thirty-six year old, dry-grown vines and is a regular medal winner,” he says.
“It has the same pedigree as our much vaunted reds, but often gets over-looked in a crowded market place.”
The Coonawarra wine was awarded Gold in the highly competitive Riesling class at the 2010 Royal Adelaide Wine Show.
The class is always hotly contested, with many entries from decorated Riesling producers in South Australia’s Clare and Eden Valleys.
In 2002 the Leconfield Riesling was awarded the Trophy for ‘Best Riesling’ in the Adelaide Show and this year’s award puts it amongst the best examples from the 2010 vintage.
“Our Riesling is always intensely varietal,” says Gordon, “exhibiting wonderful floral aromas and minerally citrus fruit flavours typical of high quality Riesling.”
“They have wonderful life and elegance in their youth and develop lovely toastiness and depth with age.”
“It is wonderful to see the whites battling with the reds for centre stage,” he says.
